NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team split a doubleheader with Carlow University, dropping game one 3-0 and winning game two 8-0 in five innings.
In game one, Carlow scored first in the top of the second when Keyara Morgan reached base on an error by third baseman Katelyn Zillick. She scored on a double steal as she came home from third and Kasey Wolford stole second.
The Celtics (5-7, 1-1 RSC) added a pair of runs in the sixth to put the game away. Kasey Wolford singled up the middle to score Danielle Levato, who had reached on an error. Then Adrianna Gotheld singled to left to score Annamarie Osecki who had singled.
The Grenadiers (7-11, 1-1 RSC) could only manage two hits in the contest and only had runners in scoring position in the fourth inning and could not convert.
Emily Weiss (4-5) took the loss and allowed seven hits and three runs, one earned while striking out nine and walking four. Abby Stroud got the complete game shutout.
In game two, the Grenadiers put the game away with a seven-run third inning. The big blow came when Miranda Miller doubled off of the top of the wall in left with the bases loaded. Lindsey Nelson, Lindsey Keen and Kaitlyn Flowers each had RBI doubles in the inning and Morgan Keefer had a RBI single.
IU Southeast added another run the fourth when Reecie Gilliam reached on a bunt base hit, stole second scored on a RBI single from Keen.
Becca Schoenun threw a complete-game shutout for her second win of the season. She allowed three hits and struck out four.
Lindsey Keen and Kaitlyn Flowers each had two hits in the win.
IU Southeast head coach Joe Witten recorded his 200th win at IU Southeast with the victory.
The Grenadiers host Point Park Saturday at noon on Grenadier Softball Alumni Day.
