No. 22 Grenadiers Split Doubleheader With Thomas More

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No. 22-ranked IU Southeast softball team split a doubleheader with Thomas More College on Tuesday, falling 3-1, before winning the nightcap 4-3.

In game one, the Grenadiers fell behind 2-0 on a double steal from first and third in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Ashley Pollard in the fourth inning.

The Grenadiers (20-8) cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Ellie Jackman hit a solo home run to center for her second home run of the year.

In the sixth, Andrea Gahan doubled to left and scored on a RBI single by Adrian Marquez to extend the Saints' lead to 3-1.

The Grenadiers had a runner at second base and the tying run at the plate in seventh but Dallas Henderson grounded out to short to end the game.

Hannah Ogg worked all seven innings and took the loss. She allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits and struck out seven.

In game two, the Grenadiers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first when Jackman doubled to left-center to score Macie Zink who had singled. Kelsey Warman hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Lindsey Nelson who had reached on a walk and advanced to third on Zink's double.

But the Saints (6-13) answered right back with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Ashley Pollard led off with a double and scored on a double by Rebecca Mowen. Mowen later scored on a wild pitch.

IU Southeast tied the game in the bottom of the frame. Miranda Miller reached base on the fielder's choice and stole second. She scored on a single by Macie Zink.

The game was tied until the fifth inning when Jackman singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. She scored on a RBI single by Madeline Probus.

Kaitlyn Flowers made a great diving catch in center to end the game.

Gabby Mahoney (4-0) got the complete game win. She allowed three runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out three.

Macie Zink was 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Ellie Jackman was 2-for-2 with a walk, run scored and a RBI.

IU Southeast travels to No. 3 Lindsey Wilson tomorrow at 4 pm ET.
