Grenadiers Win 75-60, Advance To NAIA Semifinals For First Time

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Southern Indiana products Terence Billups (Jeffersonville H.S.) and Matt Trimnell (Seymour H.S.) each had 20 points as IU Southeast defeated the College of the Ozarks 75-60 in the 2013 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Championship to advance to the NAIA semifinals for the first time in school history.

With the win, IU Southeast tied the school record for single-season wins held by the 2005-06 squad with 30 victories.

The first half was close throughout. IU Southeast was able to stretch its lead to seven points by halftime after trailing by six points early in the game. Billups had 12 of his 20 points in the first half and IU Southeast led 37-30 at the break.

The Grenadiers (30-4) led by 17, their largest lead of the game with about 15 minutes to play behind the play of Matt Trimnell. He had 13 of his 20 points in the second half.

The host Bobcats, behind their raucous home crowd, cut the lead to six with about two minutes to play, but they would not get closer. Billups and Trimnell made key free throws down the stretch to stretch the lead back to double-digits. IU Southeast shot 86 percent (18-21) from the free throw line to in the game.

Billups was 8-10 from the field and Trimnell was 6-9 as the Grenadiers shot 52 percent (25-48) from the field.

Kegan Clark had 12 points and Jake Simpson added 10 for the Grenadiers.

Mike Wiebe had 18 points for the Bobcats, who finished the season 23-13.

IU Southeast will face Cardinal Stritch on Monday at 9 p.m. ET in the second semifinal.
