NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Turnovers and a struggling offense sent the Grenadiers to their sixth-straight loss on Tuesday, 68-58 to NAIA Div. II No. 22-ranked Cardinal Stritch.
Jake Simpson had a game-high 25 points and Parker Henes added 14 in his first game of the season.
The Grenadiers (3-8) were sloppy with the ball throughout the game and committed 18 turnovers. In the first half, IU Southeast was able to shut down the Cardinal Stritch offense and held them to just 34 percent shooting (11-of-32) from the field. The Wolves (10-6) were only able to score six points of off 10 first-half turnovers by the Grenadiers.
IU Southeast kept the game close and closed the half with strong offense play that was capped off by a Kayman Garrett three-pointer. The Grenadiers led 29-26 at halftime. Simpson had 11 points and Henes had 10 points off the bench in the opening half to keep the game close.
In the second half, the offense struggled to gain traction in the second half. IU Southeast led 37-30 before an 11-2 run put the Wolves in front. The lead would shift back and forth before some key turnovers ended the Grenadiers' hopes of a comeback win.
IU Southeast shot 34 percent in the second half (11-of-32) and the Wolves were able to shoot 12-of-25 (48 percent) to pull away.
Chad Mazur had 18 points to lead the Wolves. Tony Smit added 16 and Tyler Semenas had 15.
IU Southeast hosts Cumberland University on Saturday at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader with the women's team.
