No.2 Grenadiers Upset By Cincinnati Christian 83-71 In KIAC Final

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. - A cold start offensively doomed the Grenadiers as Cincinnati Christian upset IU Southeast in the KIAC Men's Basketball Championship.

IU Southeast (25-4) made just six field goals in the first half and shot 6-of-22 in the opening half. The Grenadiers trailed 31-24 at halftime.

IU Southeast shot much better from the field in the second half but they could not get their shots to fall from the perimeter, shooting just 3-of-12 in the final frame.

CCU pounded IU Southeast on the glass 40-27 and outscored them in second-chance points 14-2.

The Grenadiers were led by Vernon Payne's 17 points. Cameron Mitchell and Aishon White each had 14, Jake Simpson had 12 and Kevin Mitchell chipped in with 10 points.

Mike Hill had 21 points and Kenny Gaynor had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

IU Southeast will still likely earn an at-large bid to the 23rd Annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo.

This at-large bid will be confirmed on Wednesday, March 5 at 9 p.m. ET on the NAIA National Tournament Selection Show. The show will feature commentary and analysis.
