Brown Becomes Career Wins Leader In 105-93 Win Over Asbury

WILMORE, Ky. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team had five players score in double-figures and head coach Wiley Brown became the Grenadier men's basketball program career wins leader in a 105-93 win over Asbury on Saturday. He recorded his 279th career win at IU Southeast which passed former athletic director and first men's basketball coach Jim Morris's record.

The Grenadiers (17-7, 10-3 RSC) shot 61 percent from the field and led by as many as 29 points in the contest. The game was tied three times and the Grenadiers never trailed.

David Burton led IU Southeast with 21 points and eight rebounds. Anthony Wales Jr. had 18 points and five assists, Seth Cox had 16 points and seven rebounds, Jaivaughn Jackson had 14 points and Jocobi Hendricks had 13 points and six rebouds in the win.

The game was close throughout much of the first half and a three-point basket by Jared Osborne extended the Grenadier lead to 35-29 with 6:22 to play. Another three by Hendricks increased the led to 40-31 and IU Southeast began to pull away.

The Grenadiers closed the half on a 25-9 run to take a 54-38 lead to halftime. Anthony Wales Jr. had 15 points in the first half to lead IU Southeast. David Burton had 12 points and Jocobi Hendricks and Seth Cox added 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

Asbury cut the lead to 12 points early in the second half but the Grenadiers answered with a quick 15-3 run that put the game out of reach.

Jaivaughn Jackson had a strong second half for the Grenadiers. He scored all 14 of his points in the final 20 minutes.

The Grenadiers were dominant in the paint, outscoring Asbury 50-26 and in bench points 46-12.

IU Southeast visits Brescia University Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

The IU Southeast Athletic Department will celebrate Coach Brown's accomplishment prior to the game vs Midway University on February 15 at 3 p.m. Coach Jim Morris will be on hand and we invite all former men's basketball alumni to attend.
