LEWISTON, Idaho – The IU Southeast baseball team's season came to an end on Monday with a 12-1 loss to Hope International in the 2024 Avista NAIA World Series.
There were only two base runners in the first three innings of the game, both of which reached on a hit by pitch. The game remained scoreless until the fourth.
A solo home run in the top of the fourth gave Hope International a 1-0 lead. The Royals used four singles to score two more runs and take a 3-0 lead.
A solo home run in the fifth put Hope International ahead 4-0.
IU Southeast put two runners on in both the fifth and the sixth inning but Hope International escaped both jams to maintain a 4-0 lead.
Hope International loaded the bases in the seventh. A walk and a hit by pitch gave the Royals a 6-0 lead. A two-RBI single put the Royals ahead 8-0.
Another solo home run extended Hope International's lead to 9-0 in the eighth. A two-run home run and a solo home run put the Royals ahead 12-0 in the ninth.
An RBI double by
Alex Yurt put IU Southeast on the board in the ninth, but the Grenadiers would ultimately fall to Hope International 12-1.
IU Southeast had four hits in the contest.
Kody Putnam and
Alex Yurt each doubled, and Yurt and
Max Flock each stole a base.
Tyler Yotkewich started and threw four innings.
Conner Fries,
Garrett Hill,
Kacey Cheek,
Cade Reynolds,
Gavin Knust,
Brendan Koester, and
Cade Rusch each threw in relief.
IU Southeast finishes the season 37-20.
