LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 17
th ranked IU Southeast baseball team defeated Georgetown 4-3 on Wednesday to extend their winning streak to six games.
Georgetown loaded the bases in the bottom of the second with no outs, but starting pitcher
Eli Laurent struck out the next two batters and got the next batter to fly out to get IU Southeast out of the inning unscathed.
In the top of the third, IU Southeast used a walk, a hit by pitch, and an error to load the bases with no outs. With one out,
Logan Beard was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give IU Southeast a 1-0 lead.
Georgetown responded in the bottom of the third with a run to tie the game at 1-1.
Nolan Bowser opened the top of the fifth with a single. A sacrifice bunt by
Preston Shelton gave IU Southeast a runner on third with one out. After a popup,
Ethan Burdette singled to left field to put IU Southeast ahead 2-1.
Three straight doubles by Georgetown in the bottom of the fifth put the Tigers ahead 3-2.
In the top of the seventh,
Logan Beard doubled with one out and advanced to third on a single by
Hazel Martinez. An RBI fielder's choice by
Ethan Burdette tied the game at 3-3.
IU Southeast used a single and two walks to load the bases with one out in the top of the eighth.
Cole Reynolds would come around to score on a pitch that got away from the catcher to put IU Southeast ahead 4-3.
Georgetown put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth, but a groundout got IU Southeast out of the inning.
The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth as IU Southeast secured a 4-3 victory.
Logan Beard had two of the four hits for IU Southeast. Both Beard and
Cole Reynolds doubled.
Ethan Burdette drove in two runs and stole a base.
Eli Laurent got the start for IU Southeast, allowing one run on four hits in four innings of work while striking out four.
Aiden Darlage followed in relief.
Daly Skees threw two scoreless innings, and
Oscar Welsh got the win with a scoreless inning in the seventh.
Gavin Sebby pitched a scoreless eighth, and
Nick Pazos followed with a perfect ninth to pick up his third save of the season.
No. 17 IU Southeast (8-5) turns their attention to the first conference weekend of the season. The Grenadiers will host conference foe IU Kokomo in a three-game set on Friday and Saturday.
