HENDERSON, Tenn. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team's Cinderella run came to an end on Friday night when the 16
th seeded Grenadiers fell to top-seeded Freed-Hardeman 69-57.
Freed-Hardeman scored seven straight points to open the game. The Lions led 21-9 halfway through the first half.
Freed-Hardeman's lead never dropped to single digits for the remainder of the half, and the Lions led 39-21 at halftime.
The Freed-Hardeman lead swelled to 25 just minutes into the second half, but the Grenadiers punched back. The Freed-Hardeman lead was cut to 15 at 54-39 with 10 minutes remaining.
IU Southeast fought back to cut the Freed-Hardeman lead to single digits at 62-54 with 2:07 left. A three by
Camden Pfeister made it 62-57 with 1:37 remaining.
Freed-Hardeman hit their free throws down the stretch to secure a 69-57 win.
"I'm sad to see my two seniors leave, but for the returners, I hope they see how close they are to being recognized and highly respected nationally," IU Southeast head coach
Wiley Brown said. "We had open looks in the first half, and we just couldn't knock them down. We will miss Caleb and Richard. They helped build this program to where it is today. They will be successful in the next chapter of their lives. Couldn't be more proud of my team. We made a good run in the second half and were down by five to the defending champs. IU Southeast was led by
Lane Lauderbaugh with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Trent Hinkle added 14 points and seven rebounds.
IU Southeast finishes the year 13-18 overall.
