IU Southeast Sweeps Faulkner Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The IU Southeast Grenadiers finished out the weekend series against Faulkner University with two wins, winning 10-8 and 6-4 on Saturday.  

In game one, the Grenadiers started off strong by
scoring two runs in the opening inning. Bryson Arnette opened the scoring with an RBI double to right-center to score Kevin Moore, and Matt Santana followed with a groundout that scored Trevor Goodwin.  

Faulkner responded
immediately with three runs of their own in the bottom half with a three-run home run, but the Grenadiers answered right back with a single by Coulter Hamilton to score Gabe Yonto to start the second inning. Kevin Moore then scored on a fielder's choice, and Trevor Goodwin singled up the middle to extend the lead to 5–3. 

The Eagles
scored again in the bottom of the third when CJ Roberston scored on a balk, then Orlando Arellano and Jeyson Polanco scored after a double by Jordan Carter to take the lead 6-5. But the Grenadiers refused to fade and took the lead back in the top of the fourth when Kannon Stull scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Moore. Matt Santana then singled to left field to score Bryce Elder and Kason Parks. Faulkner answered back with a single by CJ Robertson to score Tevin Landrum, but the Grenadiers kept the 8-7 lead by the top of the fifth.  

The rest of the runs did not come until the seventh inning when Nick Johnson singled up the middle to score Joel Johnson
. Kasen Parks followed with a bunt to score Kannon Stull after errors by Faulkner to bring the score to 10-7.  
Faulker attempted to answer back after a single to right field by Carter Schellsmidt to score Jordan Carter, but it was not enough to beat the Grenadiers, who won with a final score of 10-8.  

Matt Santana drove in three runs in the win Kasen Parks and Trevor Goodwin each had two hits. 

In game two,
the Grenadiers struck immediately in the first inning, pushing across two runs without recording a hit. Joel Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Kevin Moore, and Gabe Yonto followed with a bases-loaded walk to score Trevor Goodwin, bringing the score to 2-0.  

Neither team scored again until the top of the fourth inning when the Grenadiers tacked on
another run in the third when Kannon Stull scored on a wild pitch, followed by a sacrifice fly by Coulter Hamilton to score Kasen Parks.  
Faulkner answered back with a huge run in the bottom of the fourth with two walked in runs, a double by Jordan Carter to score Jeyson Polanco, and ending with a run scored by Alex Gonzalez to tie the game at 4-4.  
 
IU Southeast then regained the lead in the fifth inning when Joel Johnson scored on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 5-4. In the top of the ninth inning, Bryson Arnette secured the Grenadier win with a homer to left field, his first of the season, bringing the final score of the win to be 6-4.  

Jake
Gothrup threw a no-hitter in five innings of the second game, giving up no hits or runs. Gothrup was also responsible for nine out of twelve strikeouts for the Grenadiers in game two.  
 
The Grenadiers will be back in action at the University of the Cumberlands at 2:00 PM ET on Tuesday, February 24 for their last game before conference play begins.
