OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The IU Southeast baseball team won its eleventh consecutive game Friday night, defeating Oakland City 5-0 in game one of the three-game RSC series.
IU Southeast opened the scoring in the top of the second with a rally that began after Coulter Hamilton was hit by a pitch. Hamilton then advanced to second after a wild pitch, then scored two batters later after Caden Lockwood doubled down the left field line.
One inning later, Gabe Yonto reached base after a successful bunt and then stole second to get into scoring position. Yonto would cross home plate after Kevin Moore singled to right to make it 2-0. Moore then moved into scoring positon after Trevor Goodwin drew a walk. With two outs and runners on first and second, Hamilton made it 3-0 after an RBI single.
The Grenadiers added two more runs in the fourth. Lockwood led off the inning with an infield single, then scored from first after Kasen Parks sent a fastball to the gap in right center. Parks scored on at-bat later after a sacrifice fly by Matt Santana to make it 5-0 in favor of the Grenadiers.
On the mound, Luca Sandrella pitched 6.0 innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out seven. Sandrella was credited with the win and is now 2-0. Aiden Darlage checked into the game in the seventh inning and would finish the game for IU Southeast. Darlage pitched 3.0 innings of scoreless relief, allowing zero runs on one hit and recorded five strikeouts.
IU Southeast improved its record to 16-7 overall and 7-0 in conference play. The Grenadiers will take the field again Saturday for the conclusion of the series against the Mighty Oaks with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
