NEW ALBANY, Ind. - IU Southeast women's tennis secured its first River States Conference win of the season after defeating Shawnee State 6-1 Saturday afternoon.
Libby Banet and Kate Halbig got the doubles matches started with a 6-1 win over Shawnee State's Miranda Johnson and Marissa Justice. Eva Ellis and Maci Vaughn secured the doubles team point with a 6-3 win over Kathryn Nelson and Kendal Pauley.
Banet opened the singles matches with a win over Miranda Johnson. Banet won set one 6-3, then secured the team point with a 6-2 win in set two. Vaughn put the Grenadiers up 3-0 in the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over SSU's Justice.
SSU would get a point back after Nelson defeated Halbig, but IU Southeast secured the match after Ellis won 6-1, 6-1 over Pauley. Reece Smith won 6-0, 6-0, and the Grenadiers won the last match via forfeit.
IU Southeast improved to 7-2 (1-1 RSC) after Saturday's win over the Bears. The Grenadiers will be back home Sunday for a 12:00 p.m. match against Oakland City.
