MIDWAY, Ky. - IU Southeast softball was swept by the Midway Eagles Sunday afternoon.
IU Southeast drops to 12-11 (6-10 RSC) following Sunday's losses to the Eagles. The Grenadiers will be back in action Tuesday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. road doubleheader at Lindsey Wilson.
Game 1: Midway 6, IU Southeast 5
A triple by Savannah Gaither, followed by an MU fielding error, gave the Grenadiers an early 3-0 in the top of the first. Neither team scored again until the bottom of the sixth when Midway scored two. IU Southeast responded with an RBI single by Sofia Guy and a sacrifice fly by Gaither to go up 5-2 in the seventh.
The Eagles would roar back in the bottom of the seventh, recording five hits and taking advantage of an IU Southeast throwing error to come all the way back and win the game 6-5.
Game 2: Midway 6, IU Southeast 5
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, the IU Southeast offense went to work. Chloee Shewmaker led off the inning with a double, then Lemmons recorded an infield single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Two at-bats later, Guy put the Grenadiers ahead with a three-run homer.
Just like in game one, the Eagles rallied late to take the lead. Midway scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-5. The Grenadiers went down in order in the top of the seventh and, for the second time in as many games, the Eagles won 6-5 in comeback fashion.
