JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team was swept by Shawnee State 14-0 and 11-4 on Friday.
In game one, Gabby Adams hit a three-run home run to left to start the scoring in the top of the first inning for Shawnee State.
IU Southeast started a rally in the bottom of the inning when
Josie Lemmons singled and
McKenzie Walters drew a walk but both runners were stranded.
After a three-run third inning for the Bears, IU Southeast had the bases loaded with one out but back-to-strikeouts ended the threat.
A six-run fourth inning put the game away. Kennedy cleared the bases with a three-run double.
Josie Lemmons was 2-for-3 with a stolen base in the loss. Shawnee State starter Abbie Deeds fired five shutout innings allowing three hits, four walks while striking out five. Gabbt Adams finished 2-for-4 with four runs scored and five RBI.
In game two, the Bears opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the second. Jenna Christopher drove in a pair with a double to left-center to cap off the rally.
After Shawnee State added a pair in the third, IU Southeast cut into the lead with a four-run fourth inning, all with two outs.
After
Alaina Winzeler scored on an error,
Grace Stapleton drove in a pair with a double down the right-field line.
Then
Lillian Mackey singled to center to score Stapleton.
The Bears added runs in the fifth and seventh to secure the win.
The Grenadiers host Brescia University Friday.
