COLUMBIA, Ky. - IU Southeast softball was swept by the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders Tuesday evening.
Tuesday's losses to the Blue Raiders drop the Grenadiers to 12-13 on the season. IU Southeast will travel to Portsmouth, Ohio, on Friday for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader against the Shawnee State Bears.
Game 1: Lindsey Wilson 3, IU Southeast 1
Lindsey Wilson scored one in the first, one in the fifth, and another in the sixth. The Grenadiers got one back in the seventh. Lizzy Leitgabel led off the inning with a single, then advanced on a throwing error.
Leitgabel advanced to third after McKenzie Walter grounded out to third, then scored after a single to left by Sofia Guy. After a flyout by Savannah Gaither, Grace Stapleton single to center to get two runners on with two outs.
Gaither and Stapleton were left stranded after a strikeout, and the Blue Raiders won 3-1. The Grenadiers recorded eight hits but struggled in run support, stranding eleven baserunners over seven innings.
Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 8, IU Southeast 1
Just like in game one, Lindsey Wilson scored one in the first inning. The Blue Raiders added one in the second, then blew the game open in the third and led 7-0 after three innings.
After recording eight hits in game one, the Grenadiers struggled mightily on offense. The Grenadiers recorded just one hit in game two. IU Southeast's lone hit came off the bat of Kaitlyn Leister, a solo home run to left center.
