NEW ALBANY, Ind. - IU Southeast outscored Midway 20-4 and swept a doubleheader over the Eagles Thursday afternoon at the Koetter Sports Softball Complex.
The Grenadiers are 25-18 and 19-15 in conference following Thursday's wins. IU Southeast will take on the Oakland City Mighty Oaks Friday at 2:00 p.m., their last conference doubleheader of the regular season. IU Southeast softball will also honor its 2026 senior class before the games.
Game 1: IU Southeast 10, Midway 4
IU Southeast scored one in the first, one in the second, three in the fourth, but pulled away for good in the fifth. Leading 5-4 in the fifth, Alaina Winzeler added two more runs with a two-run single, then Chloee Shewmaker doubled to make it 8-4.
Josie Lemmons reached base one at-bat after a Midway fielding error, scoring Winzeler. Lemmons stole second, then scored after McKenzie Walters singled to center.
The Grenadiers' offense finished the game with ten runs on eleven hits. Lillian Mackey, Walters, and Shewmaker finished with multiple hits.
Game 2: IU Southeast 10, Midway 0 (5 innings)
IU Southeast's offense picked up where they left off in game two. Leading 2-0 with the bases loaded, Walters blew the game open with a base-clearing three-run double. IU Southeast scored one more in the fourth, then had an opportunity to run-rule the Eagles.
Lizzy Leitgabel, Grace Stapleton, Kaitlyn Leister, and Emily Wolf all reached base to open in the fifth. Leitgabel scored after a single by Leister, and Wolf loaded the bases for Maddy Olander. Olander ended it with a three-run triple to end it.
Liv Morris earned another pitching win in game two. Morris pitched all 5.0 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and three strikeouts. Morris improved to 3-2 on the year with Thursday's win.
