NEW ALBANY, Ind. - IU Southeast softball was swept by Oakland City in their final conference doubleheader of the season.
IU Southeast finishes the regular season with a record of 25-20 overall and 19-17 in conference play. The Grenadiers' next outing will be in round one of the 2026 River States Conference Softball Tournament.
Game 1: Oakland City 3, IU Southeast 0
Oakland City opened the scoring in the top of the first, then scored one in the fourth and another in the top of the fifth. The Grenadiers struggled offensively during game one, mustering up just three hits and four total baserunners.
IU Southeast's best scoring chance came in the bottom of the fourth after Grace Stapleton hit a two-out double. Chloee Shewmaker hit a two-out single one inning later but was also left stranded. Shewmaker was IU Southeast's last baserunner of the game and OCU took game one.
Emma Davis had a good pitching performance despite the loss. Davis pitched 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and five strikeouts.
Game 2: Oakland City 8, IU Southeast 3
Josie Lemmons tapped the dish in the first inning to open the scoring in game two. The Mighty Oaks tied the game in the top of the second. Kaitlyn Leister gave the Grenadiers' the lead again in the third after a sacrifice fly, scoring Savannah Gaither. Gaither doubled IU Southeast's lead after an RBI single in the fifth.
The Mighty Oaks rallied late in game two. OCU loaded the bases with no outs, then tied the game and ultimately took the lead. The Mighty Oaks blew the game open after a bases-clearing three-run double. IU Southeast went down in order in the bottom of the seventh and OCU took game two.
After struggling offensively in game one, the Grenadiers finished game two with ten hits. Gaither led Grenadiers with three hits and two RBIs. Stapleton and Ava Allen finished the game with two hits each.
