Former Grenadier tennis standout Matt Coomer returned to his alma mater as Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach in December 2021.
Coomer was previously the Head Tennis Teaching Professional at Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club in Shreveport, La. from 2020-21.
He was the Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Centenary College of Louisiana from 2018-2020.
Prior to joining Centenary College, he was the head teaching professional at the Southern Indiana Tennis Center. He worked with many of the top local players in the area and was the director of the junior tennis program.
From 2011-2015, Coomer was an assistant coach for the University of Louisville tennis teams. He worked with the women's team from 2011-2013 and the men's team form 2013-2015.
While at Louisville, Sebastien Stiefelmeyer reached number one in the NCAA singles rankings and won the 2014 USTA)/ITA National Championship. He also helped the Cards break into the top-20 of the rankings, finish fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) regular season standings, and reached the NCAA Tournament in both years.
With the Cardinals woman's program, Coomer helped mentor the second-ranked and ITA national runner-up doubles team of Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine in 2013.
Coomer earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from IU Southeast in 2013. He was the number one singles player for the Grenadiers and was a KIAC All-Conference selection from 2009-2011. He was named the KIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year in 2011. IU Southeast won the KIAC Tournament championship in 2009.
From 2012-2015, he competed on the ITF/USTA professional tennis circuit.
