NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast men's basketball team earned its first win of the season on Friday night (Nov. 6) by defeating the Mid-Continent Cougars 100-87 in the Joe B. and Denny Classic.
With the win, the No. 10-ranked Grenadiers win the Joe B. and Denny Classic Trophy for a third consecutive year.
IU Southeast (1-1, 0-0 KIAC) was led by senior
Carlos Mitchell (Louisville, Ky.) who had a game-high 22 points, five rebounds and two steals. Junior
Jazz Ferguson (Louisville, Ky. / Moore H.S.) scored 21 points with nine assists and two steals. Five Grenadiers scored in double-digits to help volt the team to victory in the fast-paced game.
The Grenadiers shot 51.6 percent from field goal range and 37-percent from behind the 3-pt. arc. IU Southeast led by seven at halftime, 50-43.
IU Southeast will be back in action tomorrow when it hosts Ivy Tech (Central Indiana) for a 3 p.m. exhibition game during day two of the Joe B and Denny Classic. Union College will take on Mid-Continent at 1 p.m.
Doors will open at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ticket prices for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 12 years old or younger. IU Southeast season tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
