NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast softball team swept a doubleheader against St. Catharine on Friday afternoon (March 4) which gave
Todd Buckingham his 200th career victory as a softball head coach.
"I feel honored knowing that over half of my wins have come here at IU Southeast," Buckingham said. "It has been very fulfilling seeing something grow from the ground up into to KIAC powerhouse and one day, a national title contender. Any success we have had, and any I have had for that matter, is purely a reflection of the countless hours of preparation and effort put in by the players....great players can make anyone look good."
Buckingham's record at IU Southeast stands at 123-78 and his career record is 200-219. Buckingham previously coached at Bluefield State.
Strong pitching from
Kayla Duke and
Jenna Swain along with clutch hitting helped lead the Grenadiers to victory. IU Southeast won the first game of the doubleheader 3-2. In game two, Swain was dominant and a two-run double from
Nicole Mills, a former St. Catharine player, secured the 5-0 victory.
"Winning 200 games is a tremendous accomplishment and we are all very proud," said IU Southeast Interim Athletic Director Joe Glover. "You don't earn 200 wins without a lot of hard work and a strong dedication to teaching. Todd is a tremendous asset to our athletic program and we look forward to watching him win another 200 games as our head softball coach."
The Grenadiers (5-7) host a doubleheader against Grace College Tuesday, March 8 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
