NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team defeated St. Louis College of Pharmacy 3-0 before falling to No. 23 IU East by the same score on Saturday afternoon.
IU Southeast (5-4, 2-1 KIAC) defeated the Eutectics 25-9, 25-14 and 25-18 to get the day started.
The Grenadiers used a dominant performance from freshman outside hitter Coral Maybrier to get the win. Maybrier had a match-high 11 kills. Sara Schum added eight kills and two service aces. Meaghen Tompkins had a solid match with five kills, 10 assists and two service aces.
In the day's second match, No. 23 IU East (12-0, 2-0 KIAC) defeated St. Louis Pharmacy 3-0 to set the stage for the second meeting of the season between IU East and IU Southeast.
The Grenadiers could not come up with the win again, though they were hard to put away in the second and third games of the match, losing 25-12, 25-19 and 25-19.
Jade Troutman continued her strong play with a team-high nine kills for IU Southeast. Maybrier added eight kills.
The Grenadiers head to Cincinnati Christian Tuesday before hosting Alice Lloyd on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
