NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team defeated Carlow University and IU Kokomo Saturday to pick up two needed conference victories as part of a tri-match hosted by IU Southeast.
In game one, the Grenadiers rallied from two sets down to defeat Carlow in five sets. IU Southeast came out flat, dropping the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21. IU Southeast turned in a dominant third set with a 25-14 victory and followed that with 25-22 and 15-11 wins to secure the match.
Jade Troutman had 17 kills, Sara Schum had 16 and Nicole Jones had 10. Meaghen Tompkins had 44 assists.
Four Grenadiers had double-digit digs: Stephanie Bradshaw had 21, Schum had 14 and Tompkins and Kelsey Davidson each had 10.
KIAC newcomer IU Kokomo continued their strong play with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) dispatching of Carlow in the second match of the day.
The Grenadiers (12-7, 4-1 KIAC) jumped out to an early lead and did not look back in the final match of the day against IU Kokomo. IU Southeast won 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 over the Cougars (23-6, 8-2 KIAC).
Sara Schum and Nicole Jones continued their strong play offensively. Schum led the team with 15 kills and Jones added 14.
IU Southeast continues conference play with a trip to IU East on Tuesday. The match begins at 6 p.m.
