Cam's 31 Points Carry IU Southeast To NAIA Quarterfinals

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Cameron Mitchell scored a season-high 31 points, including 20 in the second half, as No. 11 seed IU Southeast defeated No.6 seed St. Xavier (Ill.) 83-73 in the second round of the 2013 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.

The Grenadiers (29-4) opened the game on a 12-2 run and led 38-29 at halftime. Simpson had 12 points and Mitchell had 11 in the first half.

IU Southeast started the second half on a 16-4 run to break the game open. Cameron scored the first six points of the second half to open up a comfortable lead.

IU Southeast led by as many as 21 in the second half before St. Xavier went on an 11-0 run with six minutes to go to cut the Grenadier lead to 68-61. The Cougars could not get closer than the six-point margin. Jack Kreiger had 19 points for St. Xavier on 5-11 shooting from three-point range.

Cameron Mitchell finished with 31 points and five rebounds. Simpson added 19 points and Kevin Mitchell had 14 points and six rebounds in the win.

IU Southeast will face the Southern Oregon-College of the Ozarks winner Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
