Grenadiers Clinch KIAC Title With Senior Day Sweep of Berea

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No. 24-ranked IU Southeast softball team used dominant pitching performances from Jordan Batliner and Jenna Swain to sweep the Berea Mountaineers 8-0 and 8-3 to clinch the KIAC regular season championship on Saturday.

Starting pitcher Jordan Batliner helped herself by going three-for-three with three RBI including a three-run home run in the Grenadiers' four-run third inning which broke the game open. Batliner was a double shy of the cycle in the game.

She was also strong in the circle, surrendering four hits and striking out four in five shutout innings to move her record to 5-1.

In game two, IU Southeast trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the third inning. The Grenadiers (31-5, 21-1 KIAC) loaded the bases with no outs en route to a five-run outburst in the inning. Whitney Estes, Batliner and Brookelyn Visker hit three consecutive singles to get the runs home.

Swain (7-2) had another great performance against Berea, less than 48 hours after picking up a victory against the Mountaineers on Thursday. She allowed three runs on three hits and struck out eight in seven innings.

Shauna Gramig went two-for-three on Senior Day and scored two runs.

IU Southeast heads to Asbury on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
