NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team used a balanced attack to defeat Ro Grande on Saturday afternoon in three sets.
IU Southeast defeated the Red Storm 25-18, 25-19, 25-23.
The Grenadiers (9-8, 5-2 KIAC) had five players with five or more kills on the day. Sara Schum had a match-high nine and Hannah Barker added seven kills. Michala Beasley and Brittney Pink each had six kills while Kelsey Willinger had five.
The Grenadiers jumped out to a 10-3 lead to start the match which forced Rio to take a timeout. The Grenadiers did not look back and took the first set comfortably 25-18.
IU Southeast did not start the second in the same fashion and trailed 9-4 early. They got back in the second set and then scored the final six points of the set to win it 25-19.
Demi Richardson led the Grenadiers with 15 assists and Meaghen Tompkins had 14. The senior duo of Stephanie Bradshaw (21) and Sara Schum (16) combined for 37 digs in the three sets.
IU Southeast hosts Asbury on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
