NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No.2-ranked IU Southeast men's basketball team used a fast start to defeat IU East 103-78.
The Grenadiers (20-3, 14-0 KIAC) opened the game on a 30-5 run in the game's first seven minutes. IU Southeast forced 16 turnovers in the first half which led to 18 points. IU Southeast led 57-22 at halftime.
IU Southeast dominated in most statistical categories. The Grenadiers finished the game with 15 steals. They were able to use the fast break to generate much of their offense, outscoring IU East 20-2. The Grenadiers pounded the Red Wolves in the paint 60-32 and claimed a 26-9 edge in second-chance points. They dominated on the glass, outrebounding IU East 64-40.
Jake Simpson led the Grenadiers with 14 points. Vernon Payne had 13 points and six rebounds, Kevin Mitchell added 11 points and Martez Harris tied his season high with 10 points.
Tyler Fangman had 20 points for IU East.
IU Southeast clinched the No. 1 seed in the KIAC Tournament and will host a home game on Tuesday, February 25.
The Grenadiers are back in action on Monday when they host Cincinnati Christian at 7 p.m.
