NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team picked up two walk-off victories over Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, IU Southeast fell behind 2-0 in the top of the third, Jordan Batliner hit a two-out, two-run double to right-center to bring home Katelyn Heines and Jade Detzer.
The Crimson Wave took the lead back in the next inning as Brittany Renninger singled to score Kristen Ashby from third.
The Grenadiers tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Katelyn Heines's sacrifice fly brought home Brooke Barnett.
The score would remain tied at 3-3 until the bottom of the seventh when Heines singled. Summer Sanders put down a sacrifice bunt to advance Heines to second. Jade Detzer flied out to right field and the throw from Ashby to third got away from Renninger and Heines was able to score the game-winning run.
Heines went two-for-two and scored two runs in game one. Batliner went two-for-three with two RBI.
In game two, IU Southeast fell behind 4-1 in the top of the sixth inning. The Grenadiers would rally for three runs in bottom of the seventh. Morgan Klosterman singled and scored on Sarah Richey's double to left. Shelby Lucas singled and both runners advanced to second and third on the throw in from the outfield. Jessica Leanhart came into pinch-hit for Barnett and singled to left-center field to tie the game.
Leah Podgorny was the hero in the bottom of the ninth. The sophomore transfer from Calumet St. Joseph singled home the winning run after Heines doubled to secure the sweep.
The Grenadiers (8-7) visit Midway College on Monday with the first game beginning at 3 p.m.
