Grenadier Softball Splits Doubleheader With Point Park

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team split a doubleheader with Pont Park to open a weekend series between two of the KIAC's top teams.

In game one, Jordan Batliner hit a two-run home run to left to put IU Southeast up 2-1 after an inning of play. The home run was her third of the year.

The second inning was a series of defensive miscues led to a six-run inning for Point Park. IU Southeast committed three errors and gave up seven hits in the inning. The Grenadiers would never recover and dropped game one 9-3. Madison Ray took the loss after giving up seven runs, five earned, in one and a third innings.

In game two, the Grenadiers scratched out a run in the bottom of the second as Summer Sanders singled to center to score Jade Detzer from second.

After Ashley Morran hit a two-run home run to left to give Point Park the lead 2-1 in the top of the fourth, the Grenadiers responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. A weakly hit ball by Sanders back to the pitcher Megan Dyer allowed Brooke Barnett to slide underneath the tag. A double by Shelby Lucas would score Jessica Leanhart to give the Grenadiers the lead.

Leanhart (11-2) did the rest. She gave up two runs, one earned, and struck out two while walking four to pick up her eleventh win of the season.

The Grenadiers continue their series with Point Park on tomorrow at 1 p.m. on Senior Day. The Senior Day events will take place after the conclusion of game one.
