NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team shut down the Point Park offense in a Saturday afternoon sweep as the Grenadiers won 4-3 and 2-0.
In game one, the Grenadiers trailed 3-1 after Alyssa McMurtie had a RBI single and Gabi Vogt had a RBI double.
IU Southeast roared back in the bottom of the frame. Shelby Lucas hit a two-run double down the right field line to tie the game. Jordan Batliner followed with a double to right center for what proved to be the game-winning run.
Senior Jenna Swain retired the next six batters to pick up the win on Senior Day. She gave up three runs on four hits and struck out eight.
In game two, Jessica Leanhart had her third shutout in four games. She gave up two hits and struck out four for her 12th win of the year.
Brookelyn Visker doubled to left and a misplay on the cutoff by Natalie Zivic allowed Shelby Lucas to come around to score.
Lucas scored again after hitting a single to center. Batiner followed with a single. After Visker hit a sacrifice but to advance the runners, Jade Detzer grounded out to shortstop to score Lucas.
Lucas finished game two 2-for-3 and was the only Grenadier with a multi-hit game. The Grenadiers other senior, Jade Detzer finished game two with the game's only RBI and went 1-for-3.
IU Southeast hosts Ohio Christian on April 16 at 1 p.m.
