NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team lost a hard-fought match in five sets to Asbury on Thursday night, snapping the Grenadiers seven-match win streak.
Three Grenadiers had double-figure kills. Michala Beasley had 16, followed by Hannah Joly's 15 and Katie Fischer who had 13.
Hannah Barker had a career-high 56 assists. Barker and Caitlynn Pfaadt led IU Southeast with 16 digs each.
Ryanne Purcell had a match-high 21 kills for Asbury.
The Grenadiers (14-8) opened the match slowly, dropping the first set 25-15 and the second set 25-22. IU Southeast responded by pulling out the third set 28-26. The Grenadiers led 23-20 but Asbury rallied to tie it at 23 before IU Southeast was able to close it out.
The third set had 10 ties and the largest lead was IU Southeast by three. There were 30 ties in the match.
The fourth set was also close and with the score tied at 20, Fischer came through with two big kills and also served on the set's final point which led to a Hannah Joly kill to force a deciding fifth set.
The Grenadiers never led in the fifth set but kept it close. Kayla Morlan had four key kills in the fifth set to secure the win for the Eagles.
IU Southeast hosts Oakland City on October 20 at 7 p.m.
