NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team swept Brescia 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 on Thursday night.
Hannah Joly led the Grenadiers with 12 kills and Monica Loftus added 11 in the win. Michala Beasley and Katie Fischer each had six kills. Hannah Barker had 33 assists and Fischer had five combined blocks in the match.
The Grenadiers (8-7, 3-2 KIAC) used an effective service game to extend their lead in each of the sets, outscoring Brescia 12-1. Hannah Joly had four service aces while Caitlynn Pfaadt added three and Taylor Sutton and Maddie Jacobi each had a pair.
IU Southeast took a commanding lead with a convincing win in the second frame and gained much of the momentum in the match. The set was tied at 10 before the Grenadiers went on a 15-6 run, buoyed by four aces in the run including two from Jacobi.
The third set was closer but the Grenadiers were able to keep the Bearcats at arm's length. They led by as many as six in the final frame and never trailed to close out the match.
The Grenadiers travel to Rio Grande Friday for a 5 p.m. match in the KIAC Game of the Week.
