NEW ALBANY, Ind. – For the second-straight match the IU Southeast volleyball team forced a match to the deciding fifth set, but could not pull out a victory as Oakland City narrowly defeated the Grenadiers Tuesday night.

Hannah Joly had 19 kills and Michala Beasley continued her strong offensive play with 13 kills. Katie Fischer and Monica Loftus each added nine. Hannah Barker had 52 assists. Four Grenadiers had double-digit digs, led by Hannah Joly and Monica Loftus who each had 18.

The Lady Oaks were led by Tya Harmon and Haley Taylor, who had 24 and 18 kills, respectively.

After losing the first set 25-21, the Grenadiers had an effective second set and were able to win by double digits, 25-15, but they were not able to carry that momentum into the next three sets. They lost the third set 25-20 and had trouble putting away the fourth set before they pulled it out 27-25.

Oakland City jumped out to a comfortable lead in the fifth set and put the Grenadiers away 15-11.

IU Southeast (14-9) travels to Indiana Tech on Friday for the Liz Lykowski Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
