Grenadiers Nipped By St. Catharine 80-76 In Home Opener

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Four Grenadiers scored in double figures but it was not enough as IU Southeast dropped its home opener 80-76 to St. Catharine on Tuesday.

IU Southeast (0-2) trailed by as many as 18 in the first half but cut the lead to 50-48 with 13:28 to play in the game.

St. Catharine (1-0) responded with a 17-6 run to extend the lead to 67-54, but the Grenadiers did not go quietly. Jordan Coleman hit two clutch three-pointers to make it a 78-76 game with 47 seconds to play, but the Grenadiers would get no closer.

Demetrius Stanton had a career-high 25 points for IU Southeast. Myles Harvey helped lead the comeback with 10 of his 13 points coming in the second half. Jordan Coleman had 12 points and Robert Sawyer added 10.

St. Catharine's Chris Johnson had 24 points to lead the Patriots. Brandon Bobb Jones had 20 points and seven rebounds.

The Grenadiers shot just 38 percent from the field in the game and went 9-of-32 from behind-the-arc.

A bright spot for the Grenadiers was their bench, which outscored the Patriots 20-7.

IU Southeast travels to University of the Cumberlands on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
