Grenadiers Fall To IU Kokomo In Five Sets In KIAC Semifinal

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The 2015 IU Southeast volleyball season came to an end in the KIAC semifinals on Saturday, as the fifth-seeded Grenadiers fell 3-2 to No. 1 seed IU Kokomo.

IU Southeast (18-17) jumped out to a two-set lead after taking the first set 25-20 and the second 25-22. The Cougars (33-4) roared back with convincing 25-14 and 25-18 wins in sets three and four to force a deciding fifth set.

The Grenadiers used a 6-3 run in the first set to put some distance between themselves and the Cougars at 23-18 and picked up a first set win 25-20.

In the second set, IU Southeast trailed 20-19, before a 6-2 rally won the second frame.

The Cougars won comfortably in the third and fourth sets which set the stage for the deciding fifth set and a berth in the championship.

IU Kokomo led 5-1 to open the fifth set and did not look back, winning the match 15-10.

Hannah Joly had a match-high 18 kills and Monica Loftus added 13 to lead the Grenadiers.

With the loss, the Grenadiers fail to advance to the KIAC Championship match for the first time since 2012.
