NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Grenadiers used a 12-0 run in the second half to pull away from a pesky Miami-Middletown team on Saturday. Demetrius Stanton and Joe Jackson led the charge as they combined to score 37 points in the second half as IU Southeast won 80-69.
Stanton and Jackson each scored all of their points in the second half. Stanton had 21 points and Jackson added 16 points and eight rebounds. Myles Harvey had 10 points, four rebounds and three steals. Robert Sawyer was dominant on the glass, grabbing 20 rebounds.
IU Southeast (3-4) trailed 33-30 and the game was close throughou with 12 ties and three lead changes.
With eight minutes to play and the score tied at 54, Demetrius Stanton and Joe Jackson took over. They combined to score the next 12 points in the game. Stanton hit a huge three to extend the IU Southeast lead to 62-54 and put the game out of reach.
The Thunderhawks cut the lead to 67-62 with 6:18 to play but they would not get closer as the Grenadiers secured the win at the free throw line.
IU Southeast shot 21-of-28 (75 percent) from the line in the second half to pull out the win.
The Grenadiers scored 17 points off of 24 Miami-Hamilton turnovers and committed just three turnovers in the second half.
IU Southeast heads to Campbellsville Monday at 8 p.m.
