NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team returned to conference play on Saturday and easily dispatched the Alice Lloyd College Eagles 13-0 and 8-0.
Caroline Cato threw her second no-hitter in four games and Jessica Leanhart threw a two-hit shutout.
In game one, the Grenadiers struck for eight runs in the first inning. Brookelyn Visker hit a two-run double to open the scoring. Summer Sanders and Katelyn Heines each had RBI singles in the frame.
In the bottom of the second, Visker and Sanders each had back-to-back doubles. Then Cadie Povaleri singled to score Sanders.
The Grenadiers (7-1, 4-0 KIAC) would add on three more runs in the fourth.
Leanhart (4-0) was dominated in the game. She gave up two hits in five innings and struck out six while walking one.
Morgan Klosterman had three RBI in the win. Sanders, Visker, and Povaleri each had two hits and two RBI.
In game two, the Grenadiers once again jumped out to an early lead. Alyssa Price hit a two-run single to score Morgan Klosterman and Sanders. Delaney Arnold hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Price and Heines hit an RBI single to score Cadie Povaleri.
The Grenadiers would add another run in the third when Brooke Barnett singled and stole second and then scored when Morgan Klosterman hit a triple.
Katelyn Heines capped off the game by hitting a two-run inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the fourth. Heines hit a ball into the gap in left-center and it rolled to the wall. Alyssa Price scored and Heines slide in ahead of the throw.
Cato (3-1) worked five innings and walked one batter for her second no-hitter this week. She also threw a no-hitter against Midway on Tuesday.
Alyssa Price had three RBI and five Grenadiers had multi-hit games in game two.
The Grenadiers conclude the series with Alice Lloyd Sunday at 1 p.m.
