NEW ALBANY, Ind. – IU Southeast and Asbury kept it close for five and-a-half innings of game one before the Grenadier bats exploded for a seven-run sixth inning and it was senior third baseman Summer Sanders who proved the exclamation point with a walk-off grand slam to take it 11-0.
Sanders knocked in a career-high five RBI and went 3-for-3 with a walk and two singles.
IU Southeast (17-3, 11-1 KIAC) opened the scoring in the third when Brookelyn Visker reached on a fielder's choice and Delaney Arnold scored. Then Sanders brought in Visker with an RBI single.
The Grenadiers added two more runs in the fifth when Brookelyn Visker hit her first home run of the season to left-center.
IU Southeast closed it out with a seven-run rally in the sixth. Morgan Klosterman and Alyssa Price had back-to-back singles and scored on a single from Shelby Lucas. Katelyn Heines brought in Lucas with a single. Then Sanders ended it with a rocket to center.
Jessica Leanhart (11-1) was dominant in her one-hit shutout. She walked one and struck out seven.
Lucas went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored and Heines also knocked in two runs in the win.
In game two, the Grenadiers got on the board first when Visker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Morgan Klosterman scored.
Asbury (7-9, 4-8 KIAC) responded with two runs in the top of the second and the Grenadiers tied it in the bottom of the frame. After Montanah Rogers singled, Brooke Barnett singled and advanced to third on Julie Jarboe's misplay, Rogers scored to tie it.
Katrina Miller hit a RBI single to center to score Anna Beth Hill who had singled and advanced to second a sacrifice bunt. That hit would prove to be the game winner.
Caroline Cato (6-2) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds.
The Grenadiers travel to Brescia Tuesday at 4 p.m.
