NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team dropped its first conference match of the year in five sets to Asbury on Tuesday night.
The Grenadiers (19-8, 9-1 RSC) dropped the first two sets 25-20 and 25-18 before rallying in the next two sets.
In the third set, the Grenadiers and Eagles were tied at 18 before IU Southeast recorded seven of the last 10 points of the set. Monica Loftus had three kills down the stretch and Caitlynn Pfaadt and Maddie Jacobi added key aces to secure the set for the Grenadiers.
In the fourth set, Danielle Meyer and Katie Fischer helped the Grenadiers pull away and win 25-20.
IU Southeast led 4-1 in the deciding fifth set before the Eagles woke up and ended the match by outscoring the Grenadiers 14-3.
Monica Loftus had 20 kills and Katie Fischer added 13. Danielle Meyer had a career-high eight kills.
The Grenadiers put themselves at disadvantage by committing 40 attack errors and hit into 11 blocks.
IU Southeast hosts Boyce College Thursday at 7 p.m.
