Grenadiers Slay Knights 82-62 Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Southeast men's basketball team led by as many as 26 points and never trailed after giving up the first three points of the game as they cruised to an 82-62 to win over Marian University on Saturday.

Jamie Johnson had 20 points, 12 in the second half, to lead IU Southeast. Robert Sawyer had 19 points, including 13 in the first half, and six rebounds. Demetrius Stanton had 13 points and six assists.

IU Southeast (4-1) forced 20 turnovers and scored 27 points off the miscues. The speed of the Grenadiers was evident as they had 17 fast break points to the Knights' seven.

The Grenadiers pulled away with a 28-10 run halfway through the first half. They were led by Sawyer who had 13 points and five rebounds and helped IU Southeast to a 42-22 advantage in the paint for the game.

The IU Southeast defense held the Knights to just 18 made field goals in the game, and just eight in the first half. They held the Knights to just 33 percent shooting for the game.

The Knights (7-2) cut the lead to 42-33 at halftime and got as close as 49-41 with 13 minutes left in the game. The Grenadiers responded with a 26-8 run to put the game away.

The Grenadiers shot a sizzling 15-for-25 (60 percent) from the field in the second half.

IU Southeast hosts Midway University in the program's first River States Conference game Tuesday at 7 p.m.
