Grenadiers Rally to Split Doubleheader With Pomeroys

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team rallied late to tie both games of their doubleheader with St. Mary-of-the-Woods and used a walk-off single from Montanah Rogers to earn the comeback win in game two.

In game one, the Grenadiers led 3-1 after three innings, but a three-run fifth inning for the Pomeroys swung the lead back in their favor.

IU Southeast (7-10) trailed 6-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Montanah Rogers and Becca Schoenung hit back-to-back singles and advanced on a passed ball. A dropped third strike allowed Rogers to score and single by Justice Kline tied the game.

The Pomeroys (10-2) scored the go-ahead run off of a wild throw by third baseman Sydney Seger and IU Southeast could not rally again in extra innings, falling 7-6.

Becca Schoenung got the loss in six innings of work. She allowed five runs on eight hits, walked four and struck out two.

In game two, the Grenadiers trailed 4-1 as they headed to bat in the bottom of the sixth. Sydney Seger led off with her first collegiate home run. Montanh Rogers walked and later scored on Brooke Barnett's ground out to make it 4-3.

The Pomeroys were retired in order in the top of the seventh by starter Emily Weiss. The Grenadiers were down to their final out when Brookelyn Visker homered to left center to tie the game and Seger followed with a double. Rogers followed with a walk-off single to left to score Seger.

Weiss pitched a complete game and gave up four runs but only one earned. She struck out five and walked a batter.

The Grenadiers open KIAC play Friday when they host Ohio Christian at 2 p.m.
