NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Caroline Cato threw five no-hit innings and the IU Southeast offense dominated as the Grenadiers defeated Alice Lloyd 13-0 and 13-1 on Thursday.
The Grenadiers (26-13) opened the scoring with a six-run second inning. Three runs scored off the bat of Becca Schoenung after she doubled to right-center.
After scoring one run in the third, IU Southeast scored six more in the fourth. Brookelyn Visker and Tatum Oppenhuis each had RBI doubles in the inning.
Cato worked all five innings and did not allow hit while walking three and striking out three. Schoenung went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Tatum Oppenhuis and Sydney Seger each had two hits.
In game two, the Grenadiers scored one run in each of the first two innings before exploding for 11 runs in the third. IU Southeast had 12 of their 15 hits in the inning and they sent 17 batters to the plate.
Emily Weiss gave up two hits and one run in three innings of work. She walked two and struck out five. Morgan Keefer worked two scoreless innings in relief and gave up two hits and walk.
Every Grenadier fielder had at least one hit in the game and five Grenadiers had two hits. Sydney Seger had three RBI and Montanah Rogers, Brooke Barnett and Hannah Veit each had two RBI.
The Grenadiers host West Virginia Tech Friday at 3 p.m. Brookelyn Visker and Brooke Barnett will be honored following the games.
