RICHMOND, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team's season ended with a 25-22, 25-23, 25-19 loss to No. 1 seed IU East in the quarterfinals of the River States Conference Volleyball Tournament on Friday.
The Grenadiers (17-20) led by at least four points in each of the three sets but could not withstand late rallies from the Red Wolves.
IU Southeast led 16-11 in the first set before IU East closed the set on a 14-6 run. A 12-6 run in the second set completed the IU East comeback from a 17-13 deficit and a 15-6 run in the third set clinched the match.
The IU Southeast attack slowed in the second and third sets, with the Grenadiers recording nine kills in the second set and just six in the third.
Monica Loftus led the Grenadiers with eight kills and Alexis Bassett and Parker Andres each added five.
IU East (19-18) had 12 aces in the match to IU Southeast's three which proved to be a deciding factor. Taylor McKinney and Madison Yoder each had five aces. The Grenadiers had six service errors in the match.
The Grenadiers were able to force 29 attack errors behind 13 total blocks which helped them jump out to early leads. Kelsey Willinger had three solo blocks and four block assists to lead IU Southeast in her final collegiate match for the senior.
