NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team dropped a doubleheader to Midway University, 4-2 and 5-4 in ten innings on Friday.
In game one, IU Southeast opened the scoring in the third when Kyndyl Olds hit a RBI single through the hole at short to score Clara Shean.
Midway (6-12, 2-2 RSC) scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead. In the fifth, the Eagles got an RBI triple from Carly Benz and followed that with an RBI double from Kelsey Gravens to make it 4-1.
Tiffany Wickline got the complete-game win and Emily Weiss took the loss.
In game two, the Grenadiers and Eagles battled back and forth and it took 10 innings to get a conclusion.
Carly Benz led off the game with an inside-the-park home run to left to give Midway the lead early.
IU Southeast (6-12, 1-3 RSC) took the lead in the third inning when Justice Kline singled to score Becca Schoenung who had doubled. Emily Weiss followed with a bunt base hit and Emily Hollis scored on the throw.
The Grenadiers trailed 4-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh but got the crucial run they needed to force extra innings.
Emily Weiss led off with a single and Sidney Chumbler got down a nice sacrifice bunt to move her to second. Kyndyl Olds followed with an RBI double to tie the game. Maddie Probus followed and grounded out to second and Olds was tagged out trying to score from third.
Midway got the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th when Gravens tripled to right to score Aliyah Johnson.
IU Southeast got the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the inning but Justice Kline hit a ground ball to short and Hollis forced out at second to end the game.
Emily McGlothin got the win in eight innings of relief. Emily Gray took the loss and pitched all 10 innings for IU Southeast.
