Grenadiers Split Friday's Games With Taylor and Lindenwood-Belleville

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team picked up its first of the season on Friday, defeating Taylor University 9-1 in five innings and dropped a 2-1 decision to Lindenwood-Belleville.

Against Taylor, the Grenadiers struck for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie. Maddie Probus and Becca Schoenung both singled and scored after a pair of Taylor errors. Clara Shean scored on a fielder's choice and Emily Hollis would single and come around to score after another Taylor error.

IU Southeast (1-5) would tack on five more runs in the fifth. Probus led off with another single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Justice Kline. Clara Shean would bring in Sadie Soliday on a bunt base-hit and Emily Hollis ended the game with a triple and then scored on a single from Emily Weiss.

Kyndyl Olds went 3-for-4 in the win and Probus, Schoenung, Keefer and Hollis each had two hits.

Emily Gray pitched all five innings for the Grenadiers to earn her first win at IU Southeast. She gave up one run on four hits. She struck out three and walked two.

Against Lindenwood-Belleville, the Grenadiers could not cash in with runners on the bases.

IU Southeast opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when Schoenung hit an RBI single to bring in Sydney Seger who had reached on a walk.

The Lynx (9-4) took the lead on a two-run single by Rebecca Touchette. IU Southeast was retired in order in the sixth and seventh.

Kaitlin Grohman got the win and Bailey Sharp was effective though she took the loss for IU Southeast. Sharp scattered six hits in four and two-thirds innings of work and gave up two runs. She struck out three and walked one.

The Grenadiers host Lindenwood-Belleville at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Taylor at 2 p.m.
