BECKLEY, W.V. – After a slow start, the IU Southeast volleyball team capped off a perfect weekend with a four-set win over West Virginia Tech on Saturday.
IU Southeast (20-6, 7-4 RSC) dropped the first set 25-16. The Golden Bears (23-8, 7-5 RSC) closed the set on a 13-6 run.
The Grenadiers responded winning the second frame 25-19. IU Southeast led 15-14 before pulling away with a 8-0 run. West Virginia Tech would cut the lead to 24-19 but a kill by Alyssa Cosgrove sealed the second set win.
In the third set, IU Southeast trailed 12-5 before tying the set at 16. IU Southeast fell behind again 23-20 but fought back to tie it at 23 and then faced a set point before rallying for a 27-25 win. Back-to-back attack errors and then two kills by Cosgrove and one by Lindsey Howell gave the Grenadiers a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth set, IU Southeast led 10-9 before an 8-2 run put the set out of reach.
Alyssa Cosgrove led the Grenadiers with 12 kills. Monica Loftus added 11 and Parker Andres had eight. Jennie Malone had four blocks in the match.
IU Southeast hosts Spalding University Tuesday at 7 p.m.
