NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team started slowly but rallied for a five-set win over Brescia University on Tuesday.
Monica Loftus had a match-high 18 kills, Parker Andres had 12 and Alyssa Cosgrove added 11 in the win.
The Grenadiers (16-4, 3-2 RSC) dropped the first two sets 25-19 and 25-16. IU Southeast could not get anything going offensively in the first two frames and committed 10 attack errors in the first set alone.
They rebounded in the third set with a 25-18 win. The set was tied at 17 when Monica Loftus recorded a kill. Then Kenna Burman took over with four aces in the next five points. Jennie Malone had the other kill as IU Southeast took a 23-17 lead.
In the fourth set IU Southeast trailed 11-7 before responding with a 12-3 run to take a 19-14 lead. IU Southeast extended its lead to 24-17 before Brescia cut the to just one. An attack error by Brescia's Melissa Bell tied the match.
In the fifth set, IU Southeast jumped out to a 10-5 lead. Lexie Fisher had three aces early in the set to help IU Southeast pull away. Then Andres had two straight kills to extend the lead to 12-5. IU Southeast completed the comeback with a 15-9 win.
Katherine Porter and Natalie Jones each had 12 kills to lead the Bearcats, who dropped to 11-13 and 2-4 in conference play.
The Grenadiers host Ohio Christian at 7 p.m. on Friday.
