NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team had its five-match winning streak snapped with a 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 loss to IU East on Saturday.
Alyssa Cosgrove had 12 kills for the Grenadiers. Monica Loftus had eight and Lindsey Howell added seven.
The Grenadiers (17-5, 4-3 RSC) fell behind 9-1 to open the match but were able to battle back to tie the first set at 19. IU East (16-5, 6-1 RSC) scored six of the final seven points of the set lead 1-0. They recorded just two kills in the six points and capitalized on a service error and three attack errors from the Grenadiers.
The second set was tight throughout as IU Southeast could not extend its lead by more than five in the set. The set was tied at 17 when Taylor McKinney came through with two key kills to extend the lead to 24-21 after a few attack errors from the Grenadiers as well.
The Grenadiers led the third set 13-6 and then 21-16 before the Red Wolves roared back to tie it at 22. Monica Loftus gave the Grenadiers the lead at 23-22 but back-to-back kills by McKinney and Genesis Semfle Milisde gave IU East match point and an attack error from Alyssa Cosgrove that was just wide secured the match for IU East.
Taylor McKinney led IU East with 11 kills and Breanna Kopke added eight.
IU Southeast travels to IU Kokomo Tuesday at 7 p.m.
