NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast volleyball team concluded the home portion of its 2018 schedule with a dominant sweep of Midway University 25-15, 25-16, 25-15 on Senior Night.
Senior Monica Loftus led the way in her final home appearance with 11 kills. Alyssa Cosgrove had nine and Jennie Malone had six. Hannah Sipe had 17 assists and Cosgrove had 10.
Fellow senior Maddie Jacobi was stellar defensively in her final home start. She recorded season-high 23 digs and an ace in the match.
The Grenadiers (24-7, 10-5 RSC) opened the match on a 10-3 run before Midway responded with a 7-4 run to get back in the match.
IU Southeast recorded 11 of the final 16 points to put the set away.
In the second set, Kenna Burman recorded all three of her aces in the opening four points of the set. The Grenadiers would tack on another ace from Hannah Sipe and back-to-back kills from Loftus to take an 8-2 advantage.
The Grenadiers would expand their lead to 20-9 before securing the set on a kill by Halle Snyder.
In the third set, IU Southeast led 10-6 before using a 10-3 run to take a commanding lead. Appropriately on Senior Night, Monica Loftus won the match with a kill.
The Grenadiers conclude the 2018 regular season at Asbury Saturday at noon.
