NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No. 19-ranked IU Southeast baseball team capped off a wild day offensively by scoring two runs off of a wild pitch and throwing error in the bottom of the 8th which proved to be the tying and winning runs in a 12-11 win over Lindenwood-Belleville.
IU Southeast (5-4) trailed immediately when Ian Rodriguez led off the contest with a home run to left. The Lynx (6-5) would add another run on a bases-loaded walk which chased starter Grant Bradley after two-thirds of an inning.
Cody Maloon tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double to center, but the Lynx would take the lead right back in the top of the second with three runs.
IU Southeast took its first lead in the bottom of the second with a four-run frame. Clay Woeste doubled to score Jordan Branz, who had reached on a single. Later in the inning Nicholas Lugo came through with a bases-loaded single to plate Woeste and Richard Rodriguez. Josh Beams would round out the scoring when Cody Maloon drew a bases-loaded walk.
With the game tied at seven, freshman Brody Tanksley led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to left to give the Grenadiers the lead with his first collegiate home run.
But the Lynx would answer in the back-and-forth game, and took an 11-10 lead after six innings. The Grenadiers threatened with runners at second and third in the sixth but could not bring in the tying run.
In the eighth, Richard Rodriguez led off the inning for the Grenadiers with a walk and then stole second. Josh Beams walked and Nicholas Lugo struck out for the second out of the inning. Korbin Williams walked to load the bases.
