NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast softball team dropped the first game of the doubleheader with Oakland City 7-5 before winning the nightcap 6-2.
In game one, Oakland City opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the second. IU Southeast (4-8) answered with a pair in the third when Sydney Seger singled to right to tie the game.
A five-run sixth inning secured the win for Oakland City behind a couple of errors by the IU Southeast defense.
IU Southeast tried to rally in the seventh. Justice Kline had a RBI single to score Clara Shean who had started the rally with a double. Sydney Seger doubled to score Kyndyl Olds and Justice Kline scored when Maggie Lubbehusen grounded out. But that was all IU Southeast could muster as they fell 7-5.
Sydney Seger went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the loss.
In game two, starter Emily Weiss picked up a complete-game win surrendered two runs, one earned and she struck out nine while walking two.
Oakland City (4-4) scored on a passed ball in the first inning but IU Southeast answered in the second when Weiss doubled and scored on a RBI single from Ashtyn Sharp.
After Lauren Morton doubled to score Anna Orsburn to give OCU the lead back in the third, the Grenadiers tied the game in that frame on an error by shortstop Bailey Davis when she misplayed a grounder and Justice Kline scored from third.
IU Southeast took the lead in the fourth when Kaitlyn Flowers tripled to score Shean.
Becca Schoenung and Kline each had RBI singles in the Grenadiers' three-run sixth to seal the win.
Ashtyn Sharp had two hits in the win.
IU Southeast hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods Wednesday.
